The 3-Stage Journey Flow

Stage 1: The Tea Museum & Estate Ascent

Your day begins with a short, scenic drive from your hotel up into the cooler hills of Hanthana. Before hitting the trail, we make an exclusive stop at the Ceylon Tea Museum of Sri Lanka in Hantana. Housed in a historic 1925 tea factory, you'll uncover how this region shaped Sri Lanka's world-famous tea heritage. From the museum, we step directly onto estate tracks, walking past rows of neatly manicured tea bushes as the morning mist lifts off the valley.

Stage 2: Conquering the Ridge & Summit Lunch

Leaving the tea fields behind, the trail transitions into open grasslands carpeted with "Mana" grass and rows of whispering pine trees. The incline sharpens as we ascend toward the main mountain spine. Once on the ridge, navigate across dramatic quartzite peaks, each offering fresh 360-degree perspectives of the Central Highlands. At a scenic vantage point along the ridge, we pause for a well-deserved, authentic packed adventure lunch surrounded by rolling winds.

Stage 3: Grassy Descent & Return to Kandy

Following the ridge exploration, we begin a gradual descent through shaded forest paths and grassy hillsides. The afternoon light casts dramatic shadows across the valley, offering ideal conditions for panoramic photography. We trace our steps or loop down toward the lower estate gates where your private transport awaits, taking you back to your hotel in Kandy just in time for evening tea.

What to Pack in Your Daypack

  • Footwear: Sturdy trainers or hiking shoes with good grip (the quartzite rocks can be slippery when wet).

  • Clothing: Comfortable, breathable athletic wear and a light jacket (the ridge can get surprisingly windy and cool).

  • Protection: Sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a lightweight raincoat.

  • Leech Prep: Damp weather brings active leeches—Trekpin provides specialized leech socks for your comfort.

  • Hydration: A reusable water bottle (we provide fresh refills along the route).
